DOT Com or not that is the question
There are over 100 TLDs in existance these days. A TLD is what makes the second part of the web address like .com, .net. Why such a huge number because now there is a TLD for each country in the world e.g .us for USA, .uk for UK etc. So given so many TLDs does this mean you have a lot of names to choose from. Well, it depends.
Lets go by the figures. There are more than 80million .com in existance today but .com TLD makes around 50% of all domian names while the .net which is second most popular TLD has only a 8% share. Why this distinction, because .com is still and will be considered the king of all TLDs. It is still perceived as a face of internet. If you have a great .net or .org but do not own the .com you might be losing lot of your clients to the competition which owns .com for that names becuase
combination
3 or more characters to your address as this is overhead for your
client to remeber.
value
So having a premium .com is key and any other TLDs are good to have but they can not replace the value of owning a .com, think how many companies you know today have TLDs other than .com ?
.COM a way of life
.com names are most sought after web addresses these days not for corporations but even
for individual names and places. check
.com generics and brandables will be considered premiums and will always retain their
value compared to other TLDs. As with anything new there is a huge gap for other TLDs
to gain popularity but .com is the master of the game and here to stay as a diamond
shines brighter among other jewels.
Bottomline
